What our clients are saying

I used to run all the time. Cardio was my main form of exercise. That resulted in me being pretty good at running but not very strong and hurt all the time. And I didn't know much about how to eat best. Now I lift weights 5 times a week or more and have hit my macros for 3 years running. I'm in the best shape of my life, never hurt, and feel amazing.

I have built physical strength by focusing more on resistance training and less on cardio activities. This freed up time for me to be with my wife and kids and pursue other hobbies. I'm much more rounded as a fitness enthusiast now. On top of it all I learned how to eat the foods I love and not feel deprived.

Now I can run around with my grandkids without feeling pain, getting winded, or being tired. I can do it the next day too. It's all part of the plan to keep me moving through retirement. First off we got rid of a bunch of medications bogging me down. Then we started lifting weights and watching food and I haven't turned back since.

I have been to many coaches before. Mike at Pillar explained things in ways I've never heard and really helped me simplify my exercise and nutrition. When I do things, I DO them. I am passionate about learning all I can about the things I participate in and that has lead to some unnecessary practices in my self care. I'm pleased to say I have full control of my exercise and nutrition and won't need a new program or protocol to keep me motivated. That is fitness. That is nutrition.

I thought I was in shape when I started. Boy did I have a lot to learn. I'm glad I signed up though. I went from injured and beating the hell out of myself constantly in the gym to consistently hitting 400 hours of exercise a year with smaller doses of activity. Add my new eating where I track everything and eat what I like and I am the fittest I have ever been by a wide margin. I'm in my 40's and getting better each year.

I serve the public with my work. I enjoy hosting my friends and work associates at my pool in the summer. We eat, drink, and relax opposite our grueling work. I needed a system to give me energy for my job and workouts and not restrict the food and drink I like. This did that and more.

I gained a ton of confidence working with Mike at Pillar. I was motivated to get in better shape to change careers and become a police officer. I was able to lose a bunch of fat and pass my physical tests with flying colors.

As a mother I wanted to get active for my kids and figure out eating so our whole family could benefit. I learned new habits that I'll carry with me for the rest of my life. My whole family is more aware and eating healthier. I lost a boat load of fat and incorporated exercise and macro tracing into my routine. I leaned on the service for accountability I never had before.

I had no idea how out of control I had let things get. I loved lifting weights and exercising but something wasn't working. That turned out to be my food. Once I got more confident there I lost like a whole person from my midsection. My husband and I are planning on starting a family and this is exactly what I needed to do to feel confident in my body for a healthy pregnancy.

"My wife and I did this together. I couldn't have done it without her. We workout and do a lot together so cleaning up our diets was a no brainer. I am in the best shape of my life and got a new job as a fire fighter. I must maintain my physical fitness and am confident I can."

"I wanted to get stronger so that I could go about my day and not fear injury. I'm confident in the strength I've gained and how my perspective on self care has changed since starting work with Mike. I eat more protein, resistance train, and walk more than ever before. My husband and I enjoy our healthy lifestyle together and include our children in it as much as possible. We enjoy setting a good example as fit and healthy parents."

"I am in the best shape of my life, eating right, making sure I get enough sleep and trying to soak up as much information from books as possible..."

"I went from beating myself down in 4 to 5 cross fit workouts with assault bike every day in between to 3 to 4 cross fit sessions no cardio and 4 strength training days. I got better results by doing less and my body thanked me for it.

I recently lost a dear friend to cancer. His lifestyle contributed to his quick demise and that affected me deeply. It makes me realize the importance of the good friends I have and that I must do my best to help them live a healthy life.

I did this so another friend and I could have something to do together. It's a bonus that though these practices we will get a shot a many more decades of giving each other shit."

"Before I started with Mike I just believed I wasn't capable of losing weight. I had tried diet after diet and workout after workout. I had convinced myself it was just in my bones. Now I'm happy to report I've lost 25 pounds of fat, inches from all over my body, and the belief that I can't do it."

"I have lost 35 pounds and 17% body fat. The best part is that I've been able to keep it off for months."

Megan completely changed her habits. She went from drinking alcohol, eating out and random exercise to spending time in the gym daily, throwing away food gifts, and committing to making new friends who share a similar interest in taking care of themselves through food and exercise.

"I went from wearing size 44 pants to 36. And even those are loose now! Growing up I was a football guy. I played in college and have coached all my adult life. I remember thinking I was a wuss if I ordered a salad. Now I laugh and wish I would have had this knowledge when I was playing. I eat 8 to 10 servings of vegetables daily"

Aaron got his results while maintaining a grueling travel schedule. His workouts were often done in hotel rooms with just his body weight. Crossfit and outdoors work otherwise.

"My priority is to be the best dad I can be. I'm healthy as ever at 31. I'm in a better mood more often and have plenty of energy.

I lost 3.7 pounds of fat per month for the last year. This has changed my life in more ways than I imagined. "

"I lost 35 pounds of fat, 8 inches from my waist and dropped a medicine.

When I started in February of 19' I was a newish father and working a physical job that caused me to tweak my back at least once a year. My coworkers and I  loved fast food, drank and ate too much when relaxing and relied on energy drinks to get through the day.

Now I averages 6 hours of gym time weekly where I lifts weights and walk."

He doesn't feel the 'food envy' he did early on.

"I don't crave all the baked goods and sweets any more. I can't believe how much I was addicted to those types of foods. I keep my sugar to below 20 grams daily. That's what I feel good at."

Stephen put an entire year of work in without getting sick or hurt.

"I had more fun and did more workouts this year on my own than I ever did when I was a competitive athlete."

His two primary goals were to be a better parent and husband. By getting healthy he became better at both.

"Thank you. I wanted to tell you I think you helped save my life."

"I put this thing together because I needed something I could practice forever that made sense. I've never gone so long without getting hurt, been so lean, and ate so much as I do now after using Pillar Coaching Services. My blood work is spot on and I feel great. And it works for you, me, your parents and your kids."

"I've worked with Mike at Pillar since 2016. Since then i've been able to get off the diet roller coaster and build fitness into my life without it taking over. My husband and I are committed to being healthy parents and instilling the same values in our kids. I know what to teach them now and it's the same thing I do myself."

Heart attacks are the number one killer of firefighters nationwide. They won't get this one.

"I have lost 32 pounds of fat and 6 inches from my waist. I saved over $1000 from drinking almost 400 less drinks over the course of 5 months. Those savings were enough to cover my fee for coaching. I don't miss the state I was in and can't believe I let myself get so far off course. I've found my new lifestyle and share it with everyone I can."

"I've built physical strength and confidence in my body. That makes me feel strong and capable of taking on new challenges without worrying about my energy levels or body getting in the way."

"When I started I thought I was broken beyond repair. None of the workouts or diets I tried in the past worked and my confidence in my abilities was low. I'm thrilled with my results and feel confident I can achieve goals I set for myself now. I lost fat I couldn't shed for years and let go of my food confusion. I learned what to do and how to do it. I'll never look back."

"I gained 15 inches of size through my chest and back while slapping on 19 lbs of muscle and losing 19 lbs of fat.

It took a hell of a lot of work but I'm happy with the result.

I'm different in so many ways than the man I was a year ago."

Aaron (43)

Aaron specialized in both powerlifting and bodybuilding before starting his work with us. He is hundreds of workouts in and feeling as good as ever. Read more about the changes he noticed below.

Man, I could write a book about it.

The short answer is that I feel better, look better, and perform everything aside from 1 rep maxes in squat, bench, and deadlift better than I did 300-some workouts ago.

At my powerlifting “best” I squatted 440, benched 290, and deadlifted 475. Pedestrian numbers to a specialist to be sure. The worst part about me at that time was that my blood pressure was 150/100 or so. The numbers that matter to health were not great. I was  falling out of love with powerlifting as well. This lead to me being hurt all the time from training really heavy, having mediocre nutrition habits and sitting on my ass behind a desk all day.

When I started with you mind and body were ripe for a change.
Now I focus on longevity and being more of a generalist. Great at nothing but able to do anything.

Over the last 3 years it has been about becoming a better generalist.

First, it was a focus on building muscular endurance. This was not an easy transition as identified as a powerlifter. The weights I lifted went  down and the sets were timed. It was a great mental exercise for me.

Was I committed to not giving a fuck what my 1RMs were anymore? Yeah, I had to be. I was mentally committed to the change. Which has to be the case. When you watch your friends in the gym go big and your ego can’t take that you aren’t able to do that since you now train in a fashion that doesn't encourage that you can get discouraged.

But over the course of hundreds of workouts my endurance improved. A lot. Enough that with no real “prep” I did stuff like 5 days of RAGBRAI, handled 40k step hikes at Yellowstone and Tahoe, and climbed a 5.10 rock wall in Arizona. None of which would that have been possible following my old powerlifting protocols. I wouldn't have the needed endurance, flexibility, and confidence to take these challenges on.

As I acclimated to my new style of exercise, I added weight and am handling more than enough weight for a 44 year old guy. I recently did 3 sets of 10 with 190 on bench with 69 second rest and just the other day did a set of 10 deadlifts with 315 lbs.
Trust me, I’m no genetic freak or anything. I just have a greater goal in mind. I want to be able to take on anything 10, 20, and even 30 years from now. I have to move well, be strong, and be able to do it for long periods of time.

Pillar Coaching. Is. The. Way.

I never thought I would encourage my friends to lay down and stretch multiple times per week. Now I do it myself and suggest anyone over 40 and with a  desk job to do the same. My entire perspective on fitness has changed.

One year. Change does not happen over night or in 3 weeks or in 6 weeks or in 8 weeks. It happens in years after daily habits are formed. I just reached one year, but I'm in this for the long run.

Everything I learned at Pillar I want to be able to do when I'm 80. This is life. Not dieting.

Daily walking, strength training 4 times per week, tracking every single piece of food and drink that enters my mouth (which is probably the hardest part but also the easiest with the tech available), and then being in a caloric deficit 80% of those days. I'm nearly ready to work my way into 80% maintenance calories.

There are no gimmicks with Mike, no challenge, no fad diet, no pills.

Now I'm off to eat a bagel and pick some heavy stuff up just to put it back down again.

This is what happened when I decided to stop quitting on myself.

"I am busy with two young kids and an active business so I need to be physically and mentally strong, capable of taking on the challenges that come up without worrying about my energy levels or that my clothes don't fit. My husband and I are committed to being fit parents forever. We deserve it and so do our kids. "

Mother, Wife, Realtor

"I have built fitness into my life without it taking over. I learned how to achieve and maintain my goals even when life gets busy. Lifting weights and eating protein changed my body in ways I couldn't have imagined and I'm hooked for life. I wish I would have started something like this 10 years ago. I have no more food confusion. I learned what to do and how to do it. "

Mama, Wifey, Weight lifter

"I like having food as a friend, not an enemy. I dieted a few times before but am happy to report I'm done with that forever. Lifting weights is part of my lifestyle and it has transformed my body to a strong, lean, toned version I never had before. Add a sustainable eating plan to that and I feel and look as good as I ever have."

Lifter, Macro queen, Best friend

"I am the strongest I've ever been and maintaining a body fat I had decades ago. I love fitness and have been instructing in some way for close to three decades. In all that time I haven't met someone with the perspectives Mike has on how to help people. I appreciate him and his work. Everyone needs to get them a Mike." "

25 year fitness instructor, Mother, Business owner

"I've ditched food rules and restrictions and eat the foods I have always loved. I want to set an example for my kids to follow. I am a strong mom both mentally and physically and I credit Pillar and Mike for helping me all this time. I have been practicing for 5 years and don't plan on stopping anytime soon."

I am very proud of what I have accomplished in the last year. I lost 37 pounds, 7.5 inches from my waist, and gained 7 pounds of muscle. It was difficult for me to find a before photo because I didn't like being photographed due to my weight. I feel so good now! I have plenty of energy and fit into my clothes comfortably. How? The good old fashioned way - diet and exercise. I have tracked every bite that entered my mouth and increased my activity (even when I had shoulder surgery 3 months ago). I owe so much of my success to Bridget, Pillar Coaching Services, and Wes Keith. I did all the work, but they were there to coach me along the way.
