57. Time is your most valuable asset

Real wealth is discretionary time.
Money is simply fuel for your life.
You can always make another dollar, but you can’t make another minute.
Don’t let the pursuit of money erode your wealth.

When asked what surprised him most about humanity the Dalai Lama answered:
"Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived."
I return to both of these passages often to remind myself just how misguided I can become in my pursuits.
Many clients have admitted to losing sight of these facts too.
Just two days ago I received a message from a young gal who just started a new job. She was eager to please and hungry to work so she signed up for a bunch of over time. Her message was this:
"Stress and cortisol is a real thing. My resting HR went from 50 to 60 and I had a terrible headache. I wasn’t eating bad but feel “bloated” is the best term just due to all my raised levels. I’m off this weekend and Monday so I have time to continue to catch up, meal prep, sleep, hit the gym, etc. THE EXTRA MONEY IS NOT WORTH IT"
