Unconfident eaters and exercisers make a mistake by believing their mistakes matter.
If I asked you to try for a whole year to make a mistake that hasn't been made by someone else before you would have a hard time doing it.
Doing something wrong or badly is not the issue. If anything it's the expectation. Nobody gets good at anything without making mistakes.
An issue I see often in myself and those I work with is whether or not mistakes are recognized and used to set us up on a better path for the next time.
Samuel Beckett said it right: "No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better."
Errors, mistakes, and failure are for learning. They are as natural to the pursuit as an eraser is to a pencil.
People who stop learning are those who seem to never take a wrong step. They are afraid of failing.
Those who never stop learning look at mistakes as information.
They learn from them and move on.
